So you say you are getting older, your body is changing, you have lots of aches and pains, and nothing is the same—you can no longer exercise the way you used to, you don’t recover as quickly as you used to, and physical activity in general is getting harder and harder. That all may be true, but does it have to be like that?
It is a fact that as we get old, no matter what we do, our bodies go through lots of physiological changes. As such, most people truly believe that they are expected to fade as they age, and that becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy… and so they give in and give up.
I have always believed it does not have to be that way. Despite the fact that there are lots of things we cannot control, we still have a lot under our direct volitional control. We are as old as we want to be.
And that starts with our minds and our mindsets, and how we adapt ourselves to the changes. In other words, we have options: we can give up, or we can find opportunities to use our current life circumstances to our favor and take charge of our lives. We are all incredibly resilient beings, and we have the capacity to adapt to anything, if we truly want to.
